Avery Dennison pioneers with “Recycled” Labelexpo booth

Giving its Labelexpo theme of “Pioneering Change” a tangible touch, Avery Dennison has announced that its booth at the industry-leading trade show will be constructed with a significant portion of recycled liner waste collected from its own customers. “The reliance on liners in the pressure-sensitive industry and the related waste is an issue we are keen to address,” said Renae Kezar, Avery Dennison’s global senior director of sustainability, “so we see the opportunity to build our exhibition stand out of label waste as a chance to educate our customers and employees about how we can become more adaptive and responsible, and for us to learn more about creating uses and a market for this material.”

The material was recycled, reprocessed and combined with cardboard by ECOR, a San Diego based company, which converted the collected waste into the panels by their innovative technology using only water, pressure and heath. The ECOR panels are used to build a number of key elements of the booth: including the meeting rooms, storage areas, technical areas, floors, walls and an activation zone called “Change The Future.” The ultimate aim is for a majority of the total booth to be constructed with the Avery Dennison - ECOR materials.

“This material is fully reusable, and indeed, is designed to have a long useful life,” says ECOR’s corp. director Circular Economy Eric Logtens. “It can either be used by Avery Dennison for future events, by other exhibitors or re-converted into pulp for future ECOR materials. We are pleased to partner with Avery Dennison on a project that makes their sustainability commitment very real and visible and where they can show their relationships on how Avery Dennison can support its customers to achieve their ambitions and goals.”

“Liner waste is an issue we are taking seriously, and we are committed to pioneering the best ways to drive its re-use,” added Kezar. “As our theme for Labelexpo is ‘Pioneering Change,’ this is another way we are reinforcing our sustainability leadership through changes that go beyond simply developing products and solutions. “We continue to search for concepts and actions that help build our credentials and support our sustainability goals, especially when concerned with the need for waste reduction.”
